For nearly the past two months I’ve had the joy of photographing the Little 500 Series, which is a series of bike races out at Bill Armstrong Stadium, culminating each spring with the Little 500.
This was my first year shooting out at the track and I knew I wanted to do something special. After all, Little 500 is one of my absolute favorite things about IU, so I didn’t mind spending a lot of time at the track. I decided that for my J344 Photojournalism class, taught by Chris Howell, that I would pick a rookie rider and follow him throughout the entire season. I noticed Steven Gomez, someone I had previously had a class with, and approached him with my idea. He was down for it immediately and has been more than accommodating throughout the entire process.
I had a blast watching him progress as a rider and following around the Black Key Bulls at each event, getting to know some of the guys on the team. After this, I’ll be a fan of BKB for life. Below is my photostory that I put together, which I think came out pretty cool.
The video isn’t the highest quality anymore because I had to convert it like six times, but the higher res photos are in a gallery below. Enjoy.
